Schischek products meet strict international standards for potentially explosive atmospheres and are certified by renowned testing bodies. Safety in hazardous areas is not optional – it is a legal obligation.
Schischek (Rotork GmbH) holds certifications for all relevant markets – the EU, international markets and special applications.
European directive for equipment intended for potentially explosive atmospheres. A notified body certificate confirms that the product meets its requirements and may be used in the zones stated in its marking.
International IEC certification system for equipment used in explosive atmospheres. It is recognised in dozens of countries outside the EU, e.g. in Australia or the Middle East, and makes it easier to obtain national certifications.
With the declaration of conformity, the manufacturer confirms that the product meets all European directives that apply to it and may bear the CE marking. These include e.g. ATEX, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility – the device does not disturb its surroundings and withstands interference itself) and RoHS (restriction of hazardous substances such as lead or mercury).
Confirmation by a notified body that the manufacturer operates a production quality system under the ATEX Directive that is regularly audited. It is a prerequisite for manufacturing certified Ex equipment.
US electrical safety certificate to UL 61010-1. It confirms the safety of the equipment for the US market, not its suitability for potentially explosive atmospheres.
North American certificate for hazardous locations (HazLoc) under the class/division system. Valid for both Canada and the USA.
Mandatory certification of equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres on the Brazilian market. It is issued within the system of Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology.
Type approval by the classification society DNV. It confirms that a product is suitable for ships and offshore platforms, where higher requirements apply for resistance to vibration, humidity and salt atmospheres.
Safety integrity level according to IEC 61508. It states that the equipment can be used in safety functions up to SIL 2 and is based on a reliability assessment using the FMEDA method.
Simple apparatus, e.g. passive probes, does not need a notified body certificate. Conformity is documented by a manufacturer’s declaration, and the apparatus may only be connected in the Ex zone via an intrinsically safe circuit.

* ExLin is a mechanical conversion kit without electrical parts – ATEX conformity is ensured by the manufacturer (protection type Ex h); the test certificate is issued under the IECEx scheme (EPS 20.0029X).
** ExSens are passive probes – simple electrical apparatus according to EN 60079-11. ATEX conformity is declared by the manufacturer (without a notified body certificate); they are used exclusively in intrinsically safe circuits with ExLine modules or the ExBin-A amplifier. Zone 21 is not supported.
*** ExPro: the ATEX and IECEx certificates (EPS 19.0012) are issued for the ExPro-TT thermal trip; the ExPro-C and ExPro-B probes are used exclusively with ExCos-D and ExBin-D transducers.
**** ExLine is associated apparatus – it is installed outside the hazardous area (in the safe area); only its intrinsically safe circuits to the ExSens probes enter the Ex zone.
***** RedSwitch is certified for Zones 2 and 22 only.
****** In variants (InMax, InRun, InCos, InBin, InReg, InPolar, InSwitch) are intended for standard environments without an explosion risk and have no Ex certification. Red variants (RedMax, RedRun, RedCos, RedBin) are certified only for the less stringent Zones 2 and 22.
